Jack Kyle Bursary 2014/15

Alan O'ConnorThe Jack Kyle Bursary is awarded annually to a member of the Ulster Rugby Academy.  This season we have decided to increase the bursary from £2,250 to £2,500. As in the previous seasons, the bursary, will be part funded by our “Big Ballot”.

After careful consideration with Ulster |Rugby we are pleased to announce that the recipient of the award this year is Alan O’Connor.

Speaking on behalf of the URSC, Chairman Jonathan Bill said, “I am delighted to announce that Alan is this season’s Bursary recipient. In the matches we have seen so far, Alan has shown he is skilful and feisty – a great combination for a second row. We will follow Alan’s career with particular interest and we wish him every success with Ulster over the coming months and years.”

And in endorsing this year’s winner, Ulster’s Head Coach Neil Doak commented, “Alan has come in from another province and done really well – he’s been given an opportunity and he’s taken it with both hands. He’s worked hard to get to know our terminology and our plays. Alan brings a physical side and a work-rate that is paramount to a front 5 player, especially a second row. I’m pleased that has been recognised by the Supporters’ Club through this Bursary award. He’s still young, still learning the game, but he’s grown very well, and hopefully he’ll be a figure who will feature for Ulster over the next number of years.”

Ulster Rugby’s Allen Clarke added, “We think that Alan is a worthy recipient of the Award. As a year 3 academy player he has trained fully with the seniors and has already been selected ahead of some of the pros….all things being equal, he has a big future here.”
